Aquatics Careers and Training
2009 saw Barking & Dagenham Leisure take on its first Aquatics Apprentices. Candidates were received workplace experience, were paid a training allowance and were offered the following training package worth over £3000 to prepare them for a career teaching swimming and as a lifeguard:
- National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
- Level 1 Teaching Aquatics
- Teaching Swimming to Disabled Learners
- Mini-Snorkeling Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course
- Flip N’Fun CPD (junior version of diving)
- Aqua Fun CPD (junior version of synchronised swimming)
- Mini-Polo CPD (junior version of water polo)
- Level 2 Teaching Aquatics
- Adult and Child CPD, and
- an NVQ in Activity Leadership
We are taking registrations of interest for the 2010 intake. To be considered you MUST be:
- Resident in Barking & Dagenham
- Able to commit full-time to work and training that will include shift-work and weekend work
- Looking for a career in leisure teaching swimming
- At least 17 years of age and no older then 25 on the 1st of April 2010
- Able to swim 200 metres comfortably without stopping
- Able to tread water for 2 minutes continuously
- Able to surface dive to the bottom of the Dagenham Pool diving pit
- Able to swim 50 metres in under 1 minute
- Able to swim at least 2 of the following strokes confidently (front-crawl, breast-stroke, back-stroke, butterfly
- Capable of studying at an NVQ Level 2 - this will be tested as part of the interview process and is equivalent to having a level C BCSE pass in English and Maths
